The ECU Does Not Feel Engine Temperature
It receives an electrical signal from the coolant-temperature sensor.
If a cold engine is incorrectly reported as warm, the control strategy may not match the actual starting condition.
Use Cold-Soak Plausibility
After the machine has remained parked long enough for temperatures to equalize, compare:
- coolant temperature;
- intake-air temperature;
- ambient temperature where available;
- fuel temperature where applicable.
They do not need to be numerically identical.
But a major unexplained difference deserves investigation.
A Biased Sensor Can Still Look “Possible”
The most difficult faults are not always open or short circuits.
A sensor may report a plausible but incorrect value.
For example, an actually cold engine may be reported as substantially warmer.
Because the value remains inside a believable range, the ECU may not flag an obvious circuit fault.
Why Injector Testing May Pass
The injectors can perform correctly on a bench because the root cause is not nozzle atomization.
